Shammaran (the queen of snakes) Kurdish legend

Kurds use the Shahmaran image as a talisman
Sometimes they put her image on their wall or even tattoo Shahmaran on their arms,
the reason is that they believe that Shahmaran could save you from all illness, because the word for sick in Kurdish and Iranian is “Bi-Mar” which means without snake and they believe if you don’t have snake in your house you get sick but if you have the snake queen on you or in your house you never get sick.
(the story behind this is because of the plague and as the plague came from the rats, it is sure that the snake would eat the rats).

here is the legend of shahmaran
A man named Cansab (or Djansab) was taking honey from a tree. As he searched further and further, he fell into the hole of the tree. He landed in a cave where Shahmeran lived. She agreed to let him go back on condition that he did not reveal anything he knew about her. He returned to earth and remained silent until the Sultan fell ill (his daughter, according to other traditions). The doctors told him that the only remedy was the flesh of Shahmeran. So they called all the men of the country and made them go to the hammam to see the one who had scales on his back, proof that he had met Shahmeran. Cansab was then recognised: at first he refused to say where Shahmeran’s lair was, but under torture he soon confessed. Shahmeran was found and brought to the palace, where she was cut up and fed to the Sultan and Cansab. After Şahmeran’s death, Camsab mourned but remained inconsolable. Feeling guilty about the fate that had befallen the Snake Queen, Şahmaran, he decided to go to the cave where he had met her to ask the snake people to punish him.

Parfois, ils mettent son image sur leur mur ou même ils tatouent Shahmaran sur leurs bras,
la raison est qu’ils croient que shahmaran pourrait vous sauver de toute la maladie, car le mot pour dire malade en Kurd et Iranian c’est “Bi-Mar” ce qui signifie sans serpent et ils croient si t’as pas serpent chez toi tu tombe malade mais si ta la reine des serpents sur toi meme ou chez toi tu tombe jamais malade.
(l’histoire derrière cela est a cause de la peste et comme la peste est venue des rats,c’est sûr que le serpent mangerait les rats.)

voici la légende de shahmaran
Un homme nommé Cansab (ou Djansab) prenait du miel dans un arbre. À force de chercher de plus en plus loin, il tomba dans le trou de l’arbre. Il atterrit dans une caverne où habitait Shahmeran. Elle accepta de le laisser repartir à la condition qu’il ne révèlât rien de ce qu’il savait sur elle. Il revint sur terre et se tut jusqu’à ce que le sultan tombât malade (sa fille, selon d’autres traditions). Les médecins lui dirent que le seul remède était la chair de Shahmeran. Ils firent donc venir tous les hommes du pays et les firent passer au hammam pour voir celui qui portait des écailles dans le dos, preuve qu’il avait rencontré Shahmeran. Cansab fut alors reconnu : il refusa d’abord de dire où se trouvait l’antre de Shahmeran, mais, sous la torture, dut bientôt avouer. On trouva Shahmeran et on l’amena au palais, où elle fut découpée et donnée à manger au sultan et à Cansab. Après la mort de Şahmeran, Camsab prit le deuil mais restait inconsolable. Se sentant coupable du sort qui avait été réservé à la Reine de Serpents, Şahmaran, il décida de se rendre à la grotte où il l’avait rencontrée pour demander au peuple des serpents de le châtier
