Saba Niknam is an accomplished and versatile artist, born in Tehran, Iran, in 1988. She holds a degree from Strasbourg’s esteemed Haute École des Arts du Rhin and has been honored with the prestigious Prix Théophile Schuler by the Société des Amis de Arts et des Musées de Strasbourg. Currently based in Strasbourg, Saba’s artistic pursuits are deeply influenced by diverse cultures, folk art, and the beliefs, mythologies, and rituals of different peoples across the globe. Her art is characterized by an ethnological approach, reflecting her profound interest in exploring and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of our planet.
In 2023, Saba Niknam’s art works found recognition and acclaim as they were acquired by two prestigious institutions: the Museum of Quai Branly in Paris and the Fonds régional d’art contemporain of Alsace (FRAC Alsace).
The preceding year, in 2022, Saba embarked on a captivating collaboration with renowned Art director Hamid Rahmanian. Together, they crafted an enthralling Shadow puppets show titled “Song of the North,” an artistic spectacle that premiered at the revered Quai Branly Museum in Paris. The show’s premiere garnered significant attention and further solidified Saba Niknam’s position as a prominent and visionary artist.
In 2020, Saba further enriched her artistic expertise by specializing in Persian miniatures at the prestigious Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London, deepening her understanding and mastery of this unique art form.
Saba Niknam’s creative accomplishments have been recognized through grants and prestigious exhibitions. She was awarded an individual creation grant from DRAC Grand-Est in March 2019 for her exceptional project “Mami Wata,” a captivating exploration of mythical water creations. The same year, she participated in the highly-regarded “GALERISTES” exhibition with Club 7.5 at the Carreau du Temple in Paris, followed by a notable group show at Galerie Marek Kralewski in Freiburg, Germany.
Her passion for diverse cultures led her to participate in the esteemed “Alsace-Québec, ville d’Alma” cross-residency program in 2015. During this immersive experience, Saba delved into the myths of the Innu, an Aboriginal people, expressing her profound discoveries through captivating drawings and art objects. Her work from this period was prominently exhibited at the esteemed FRAC Alsace in the “Panache” exhibition from February to May 2017.
In 2015, Saba Niknam held her inaugural solo exhibition, titled “The Secret Name of the Sun,” at the prestigious Galerie Jean-François Kaiser in Strasbourg.

Elle est diplômée de l’estimée Haute École des Arts du Rhin à Strasbourg, témoignant de sa dévotion et de son talent artistique. Les poursuites artistiques de Saba sont profondément influencées par les cultures diverses, l’art populaire, ainsi que les croyances, mythologies et rituels de différents peuples à travers le monde. Reconnaissant la valeur de la croissance continue, en 2020, Saba a enrichi davantage son expertise artistique en se spécialisant dans les miniatures persanes à la prestigieuse Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts de Londres. Cette entreprise lui a permis d’approfondir sa compréhension et sa maîtrise de cette forme d’art unique, cherchant humblement à perfectionner ses compétences.
Les accomplissements créatifs de Saba Niknam ont été reconnus à travers des subventions et des expositions prestigieuses. En mars 2019, elle a reçu une subvention de création individuelle de la DRAC Grand-Est pour son projet exceptionnel “Mami Wata”, une exploration captivante des créations mythiques d’eau. My MFA thesis “Le boite noire ” Art and Shamanism, is about the bonds between artists and shamans in Central Asia (Iran, Mongolia, Turkmenistan…) which i completed with the guidance of ethnologists Thierry Zarcone and Pedram Khosronejad in 2014.
